Annuities are insurance contracts. There is a surrender charge imposed generally during the first 5 to 7 years that you own the contract. Withdrawals made prior to age 59-1/2 may result in a 10% penalty, in addition to any ordinary income tax. The guarantee of the annuity is backed by the financial strength of the underlying insurance company. With Variable Annuities the investment sub-account values will fluctuate with changes in market conditions. Either remove "Alternative Investment" section or add the following: IF DPP’S ARE MENTIONED INSERT: If you own any Direct Participation Program units (DPP), including interests in limited partnerships (LP), or Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) units, such units are generally illiquid, long-term investments. If any of your DPP/REIT holdings are shown without a price or estimated value, accurate valuation information may not be available and the value of the DPP/REIT units will be different than when they were originally purchased. In that case, please refer to reports received from the general partner with regard to the current operation and status of the investment. If any of your DPP/REIT units are valued, by and large the general partner’s evaluation is used. There is no assurance that this value would be realized when you seek to liquidate your DPP/REIT units or upon the conclusion of the program or trust.
